When the battle cry is I can't lose weight men need look no further than their favorite sports hero for the answer.
All the great athletes and performers, even titans of industry, have coaches and mentors. When men fail at weight loss it can sometimes be traced to this simple mistake:
They Go It Alone
Men are do it yourselfers by nature and may be embarrassed to ask or too proud to admit they are fat. The average guy who suspects he could benefit from losing a few pounds with a little bit of effort is often shocked when those pounds refuse to go.
Get Over Yourself
There is a reason the best athletes in the world all have coaches: They know better than to coach themselves.
Reaching your healthy weight is a great goal that benefits you and your loved ones. Get over your pride and find a good weight loss or wellness coach who can help you reach your goal. A coach can look objectively at your goals and your progress, help you decide why you want to lose weight, help you over plateaus and keep you going when you want to throw in the towel.
When you are too close to the situation your coach can help you re-focus on the long-term goals and benefits you have set for yourself.
Don't Quit Too Soon
Many a defeat is wrenched from the jaws of victory because someone let off the gas too soon. Weight loss is exactly like that.
How many stories have you heard where someone lost weight only to gain it back again? The truth is that the most important part of the weight loss process takes place after the weight is lost.
Ever notice that you reach a certain point of fatness and kind of stay there? For me it was 235 lbs. My body loved being 235 pounds most of my 20's and 30's. But then it liked 240 pounds for a while in my 40s and even had an affair with 250 pounds in my early 50s. I lost 35 pounds in six weeks but more importantly I've kept it off for years because I had a good coach who helped me understand that losing the weight was only part of the process.
Maintaining that weight until my body accepted it as my 'normal' weight was the key to success.
The Fix:
Get a coach or adviser who knows what you are going through and knows how to help you.
A young guy who has always been able to count his abs in the mirror may not be the most patient or understanding so consider finding someone who has been there and have lost weight themselves.
They'll have the perfect balance of empathy and "If I did it so can you" toughness to help you make it.
