Information Pertaining Water Testing Labs

By Leticia Jensen

It is common to see water being tested before it is applied in various uses. The need to test water will arise once a new source like a borehole is established or it may be part of regular testing of an already existing reservoir. Each and every state has got a good number of water testing labs in which one can access their services in time of need. These facilities are categorized differently according to ownership, type of certification and the nature of tasks they can execute.

Department responsible with consumer protection will provide citizens with a list of all certified labs within a given region. Since these labs charge varying fees, the consumer will be expected to choose for himself the firm that he is comfortable with as far as charging is concerned. Going by the fact that the services provided by these laboratories are crucial, the state authorities normally exercises control over their pricing and activities to ensure that they are within the recommended standards.

One of the activities performed by labs is carrying out tests on your well. There are many reasons as to why you should have well water taken through a testing process. Whenever you suspect quality problems such as an odor, then you should seek the services of one of the nearest laboratories.

It has been established that each region has got its specific contaminants. Every health division is therefore required to come up with a list of the kind of contaminants found within its area of jurisdiction. The information, which should be updated on regular basis, is used when certifying labs and also serving new wells with permits.

There is need to test water if a member of your family has a health condition like high blood pressure. Sodium, which is one of the ions tested, can occur naturally or be introduced as the liquid is taken through a softening system. After the test, the lab officials and your doctor will advise you accordingly depending on the nature of health problem.

It is expected that in their daily activities, all labs stick to the set rules and regulations. Prior to any lab being issued with an operating certificate, it must be inspected by state officials to ensure that it has installed all materials required for the job. The owner of the facility should employ people who have the qualifications to work in it depending on the level of certification.

One of the basic requirements that should be obeyed by all labs is to label test kits and bottles. This is done in accordance to the type of samples to be collected and the duration of time within which the test should be carried. If multiple contaminants are to be tested, then it is required that several bottles be provided.

The results obtained once a test is done are applied in different ways. The well owner will want to be told that no bacteria or contaminants are present in his well but is not always the case. If your well is found to be unsafe, then see a health practitioner to advice you on what to do.
