Guidelines For Lactose Free Protein Shakes

By Ines Flores

When different people are asked about matters concerning nutrition, they will always have a different thing to say since not everyone is the same. Bodies systems are different and therefore they need different amounts of nutrients. For example, some people may be lactose intolerant hence they can get unusual symptoms in case they take foods that are rich in this compound. Lactose free protein shakes can be recommended for people with these problems.

Protein shakes are taken mostly by people who are bodybuilding, have had weight reduction surgeries or are on diet in order to meet the nutritional needs that are required for them. For such people, it is important for them to make sure that they read the labels on everything they purchase so that they can know the exact amount of calories, sugar and fat they are consuming. From this label they will also be able to find out if the food has anything they are intolerant to.

Lactose is the sugar in milk that is broken down inside the small intestines by the lactase enzyme in the digestion process. The people with the lactose intolerance have a problem because their bodies do not have the capability of producing enough lactase that can be used to digest this sugar. For this reason they end up having digestion problems.

When the small intestines are unable to digest this sugar, it is passed on to the large intestines where it is broken down by the bacteria into smaller pieces. This is the process that causes the symptoms in the people with this problem. They get symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating and gas.

Lactose may be found naturally inside milk and other products made using milk such as yogurt, cheese and also margarine. They may also be gotten in the foods that include milk as part of the elements. Foodstuffs that do not contain lactose usually stipulate this information on the nutrition tag. For this reason, individuals must constantly make sure that they look at the labels before they buy something they will eat.

Protein shakes are foods that people take in order to get an additional nutrient but they cannot be considered as basic needs. They are made from many things such as eggs, soy, whey, casein, egg whites and collagen among other things. When one has lactose intolerance then all they have to avoid is the shakes that have been made from milk products.

There are other sources of nutrients that can be considered for getting proteins like the eggs and soy so as to avoid any problems that may come about in the digestive system. However, many nutritionists usually advice people to avoid the shakes that have been made purely using collagen since the amount of protein in it is too small to help make a difference in the body.

When following all the guidelines properly, it is possible to achieve all the benefits that are expected from the protein shakes without having any issues with the digestive system. This is one of the reasons why it is important to always seek nutritional advice before getting into a diet.
