Jogging Tips to Find Better Health, Fitness, and Weight Loss

By Wilson Resturbee

Jogging is a great form of exercise that boosts your energy and mood which is why so many people love it. One of the challenges, though, is sticking with your program day after day, and week after week. You also have to avoid injuries, which can really slow down your progress. The guidelines that follow are meant to help you keep you healthy and motivated with your jogging.

When you choose to run for a living, you need to make sure you stick to your plan. Most people have lots of enthusiasm when they begin a running routine, and sometimes they even get overzealous. That's when they usually suffer an injury, like a pulled muscle, and they'll usually stop running for months at a time. This is not the way to get the real benefits of running. The best way to do it is to ease into it and keep going until you reach your goal. If you want to get the most out of your running routine, you will want to run for at least 30 minutes at a time, 3 days per week. It doesn't matter what speed you're going, especially at the beginning of your running or jogging routine. It is always better to go slowly at first and then gently progress rather than push it too hard and quit prematurely. Make sure you never run when you are sick or hurt, but don't mistake that for pushing yourself when you don't want to run. If you usually have a dozen excuses for not running or jogging, such as that you're too worn out or your schedules too busy, then you will probably quit your running routine prematurely.

It's a good idea to study the health benefits of jogging. You can use this knowledge as motivation on days where you don't feel like running. Jogging can be a great way to lose weight as long as you are consistent about it.

Jogging will also help keep your bones strong and is great for cardiovascular health. Jogging is also a proven effective mood enhancer because it produces endorphins, also known as the "runner's high". In other words, if you don't feel like jogging because you're feeling down or depressed, that's the best time to do it, as you'll soon feel better once you get started!

It's always good to check with your doctor, but if you can run then you can receive the benefits, and you can start at practically any age - so don't let that stop you. Many runners report that they really do look forward to that runner's high they get. Be sure to follow proper procedures so your muscles and bones stay healthy and strong.
